Stilson Family: Moses and Charity; Part 9 THE MOVE

Finally it was decided to make the move to New Haven.  Thinking on what they had to make this move with, and what would fit or what they could take, moses looks at the old hay wagon.
As he moves hay around, he decides this is going to have to do, a bit of modification, and a little here a little there, just might carry all the necessities they would need.
So items were gone through, packing was done, and finally loaded into the wagon.  The family heads for the port, for there is a ship heading down to New Haven, to the port there.  It tooks weeks of crying over what was left and weeks to finally make the finally decision on what went.  So much left behind, but Moses was good with his hands, he would make or buy what they could when they got there.  So selling the home for 60 pounds, they make the move.

Well all that packing was going on Moses jr. became a toddler, constantly there, in the way, and looking for attention.  Charity was soon to deliver the next baby, and she hoped it would not be on the ship.

Though through all the packing, the time spent crying over what was to be left, she found a bit of time, to give attention to their dog.  Teaching it a trick even.   She was happy, scared, sad, and excited.  This was a move that was not to be taken lightly.

News papers were new, and a great liking for then.  Moses had gotten one of the first ones out.  He read to Charity about the new schools and mills in New haven.  He told her of other families moveing there.  That this was going to be a great port for getting new things, and selling old.  It would be a wonderful start, for their children, with greater education.  Charity, knew but still worried over this move.  She worried, that they might be attacked, by indians.  Moses then shouts, its the perfect time to go.  There is a treaty made with the indians, it will be safe.  And by ship even safer.   The stuff was packed, and ready, as they headed out the door, looking back one last time at the home they had shared, since marriage in Middleford.
Tears streaming down her face, Charity hugs Moses, knowing that all will be well in this new town of New Haven.

In 1700 a small puritan college known as the Collegiate school was founded, and after receiving a large benefaction from Elcher Yale, was then named Yale College.  Eventually to become a world renound University and major economic factor for the town of New Haven.
One of the many reasons, that moses moved to New Haven, the higher education, that he hoped his children would receive.
(Note: pictures are taken from a New Haven site for preservation of history)

As they unloaded from the ship their wagon, they crossed into New Haven over a bridge, that of course over the years has been greatly improved, but looks much the same as it did back then with the old white boards, and the rock.  The first thing they saw after crossing the bridge was the Yale College. and a great beautiful park, not far from it.  Historically that park is still there, and still preserved.
As they entered the bustling town, Charity oogled, so much, saying this is breath takeing.  Yes nods Moses it is.  Soon they were pulling up in front of the home he had purchased for the family, it lay near the town center, but also near the ocean.  Where they could watch the ships come and go, gather fish, and even clams.

As they stood in front of their new home, seeing the ocean behind.  Charity Gasps its huge.  Moses says yes, but not as much land as our farm.  This will still grow a small garden and house, what we need for our family and animals.  She looks around, and saying even neighbors, that are close by.  I feel so much safer here, and I am loving the view.  Moses smiles, as he knew that his wife would love the house, the ocean and the view.

Soon though Charity was in labor, giving birth to a 3rd child James Born March 3, 1713.

The baby looking so much like his Grandfather it was not funny.

Though they had moved, and was in a new home, the bustle of a small town, surounding them.  Moses swore he saw the ghost of Whipper,
As he glided through the yard.  But shakeing himself, he realizes its only a vision of the past, and that Whipper was with the master that raised and raced him all those many years ago.  Though he longed for some of what was lost, he yearned for what was to come.

Susanna screams, DAD DAD, theres a ghost.  Moses calmly tells her it is nothing.  She says yes, father, its here, its grandmother.  Moses says, no dear, like my vision of Whipper, you only think you see your grandmother.  Because we left all that was behind, and start anew, does not mean that we forget them.  Ok Father, she speaks quietly.  Maybe your right, and she turns away, knowing that he would never believe that she had seen her grandmother.

This being their fist morning in the new house, the all gather together for pancakes, the babies still sleeping.

Susanna is excited about her first day at school here, yet she worries, she will not have many friends.  Moses is excited that the Town council has asked him to bring a few of his newest inventions in, and Charity, wants to take a trip to the market to see just what is there.  All haveing decided on their day, a house woman was called in to take care of the young ones.  As Susanna headed off to school, moses to the city hall, and Charity to the market.  Excitement rushing through her at the smells, and sounds of the market.
As she passed by the college she noticed that there was a marble competition going on.

She stopped for a sec to watch.  The boys all looked so good in their day to day wear.  She was now pleased they had come here, knowing how her daughter would soon be a teenager, and then possibly find one of these boys as a husband.  Boys with education.. This made her even lighter on her feet as she continued on towards the market.

It was like only yesterday that James was a baby, but soon enough he was a toddler.  Playing with his brother Moses, and learning all that toddlers learn, getting into the potty, and breaking the things to low that he could get his hands on.  Though James did look very much like his grandfather, he was a beam in his mothers eye.

Finally with the fears and worries of Indians raiding, they no longer scared all the time.  The homes here near, and alot of families, bustling about.  Moses and Charity take a bit of time to show their appreciation for each other.

As Moses came through the door, excited from a great day in town.  He grabs Charity up, kissing her telling her how wonderful a wife she was.  How lucky he was to have her.  Little did he know that as he cleaned up the city junk piles, that rumors of an old love, a love from highschool, long ago, a love that had moved long ago, would come back to haunt him.

It was on the day that Susanna was to give a Ballet recital.  Showing all she had learned in the classes her father signed her up for.  That instead of going to see the recital..

Charity, screams out MOSES, MOSES you dirty low down scum...

What he says, what i was getting rid of the garbage the city wanted removed.  What is it your calling me names over.. YOU, charity screams, YOU, how could you.  You cheated you were with another woman..
Baffled and unsure what she was talking about, he backs off, cringing.  But wanting to know what shes talking about.

Finally calming Charity, he asks, what are you talking about.  I , she stammers, I was told by your girlfriend, that you were her boyfriend, that you were both in love.  Charity, what girl friend, Moses asks.  Charity mentions the girl again, describing her, blond with long pony tails.  OMy he shirks your talking of a day in highschool, many many years ago.  I went to the prom.. It was nothing, nothing.  A dance maybe even a peck, but it certainly was not love, and if it was then why did I marry you.
Charity, speaks, but still not calmly, it do not believe you.  As she turns and runs home.  Not even going in to see her daughters recital.  Moses, haveing missed it saw the look upon his daughters face as she stood near the door.  Wondering just how much she had witness'd.

Upon reaching home Charity rushes to the bathroom.  Ya sure I am pregnate she thought, but this was just to much to much to take in.  It was wrong of him to never tell her, she was angry.  Still how could she be angry about a girl from his highschool days, a girl he never saw again.  How could she understand that the girl did this to upset her, and maybe steal her husband away.  she would have to ponder this, but was still not sure, how this might affect their relationship, her marriage, her life.

Charity, sighs, as she walks into the bedroom, each night.  Looking down upon her husband.  Why did he ever have to love another.  How do i over come this.  She reluctantly turns away from the bed they shared, each night, as she sleeps in her daughters room on a cot.  Crying each night, trying hard to understand, yet it not comeing easy to her.

Finally moses get the time to talk to Susanna, asking what did you see or hear.

Dad, she spoke softly not wanting her mom to hear.  I heard most of what mom said.  I heard her accuse you of cheating.
Moses, spoke slowly, not sure what to say, but tells his daughter of a dance long ago in school, of a girl that thought she would be his.  A girl he no longer even knew where she lived at.  He told her it was not a lie, but it was not the full truth.   Charity, nods, saying I believe you dad, now how will you make mom believe you?  Shrugging, moses sighs, I don't know honey, I just don't know.

When finally he could take it no longer, He confronts Charity.  Look hon, i want you to understand, this is mostly untruths.  yes I did kiss a girl at my prom, yes i did dance with her.  But I did not give her any part of me, my heart is yours.  Charity listen'd intently, wondering if she should put the past in the past.  Still she was unsure.

As he followed her, and she listen'd to him speaking, she knew in her heart he was right, but she was like I do not want to talk about this right now.  I want to be alone.  Moses on the other hand refused that as an answer, saying no, we will talk this out, we will make it well again.

Finally over a  game of chess, lots was tossed around, lots was talked about, and their daughter was soon to be home.  Moses learns that Charity is willing to work it out, willing to believe once again in their Relationship, their marriage.  Sighing, Moses is once again, ready to make everyone know that he loved his wife, not a ghost from the past.
It was at this time that their daughter walked in from school.  Moses took one look and realized that she was no longer a child.  My little girl has grown up, he thinks.

Susanna was a young woman, and it took his wife nearly leaving, for him to see all that lay in front of him, as a wonderous and loveing family.

With the move, the babies, the one on the way, and a teen age daughter, Moses looks to the future of his family.  Knowing the boys would come a knocking soon, and the sons would grow quickly, he gave his life to his wife, family, home and future.

Wow, I didn't know this. What a fun tidbit to learn! I had no idea that Yale has been around that long. I also like the non-sim pictures that you added, it adds more to the history and realism of the story.

I really hope Charity will be able to trust Moses, and he didn't sleep the ex. I mean, how can she be upset at something that was from his past, before she was a part of his life? And he didn't do anything wrong. It could be worse. He could have slept with her sister. xD lol

I think your writing is improving, and you seem to be more comfortable with writing stories. The more you practice, the more you will get better. One quick note though, when you write a dialogue or when a character is speaking, don't forget to add a quotaton mark so we'll know when they start speaking and when they stop.

    Otherwise, good update!
